A large part of our philosophy has always been finding ways to enrich people’s lives through what we do best – design. But Mandela Day 2017 gave us the opportunity to give back to the community in a different way.
The staff from our Braamfontein office led the way by contributing to not one, but two worthy causes. On the morning of 18 July, two staff members dropped off a collection of canned goods for the Africa Food for Thought Can Drive.
Africa Food for Thought is a non-profit organisation that collects and distributes food to more than 17 000 children living west of Johannesburg. For Mandela Day 2017, they set their sights on collecting 6700 cans of food and we hope our contribution will go some way to helping them achieve their goal.
Our personnel always enjoy a challenge, so it seemed fitting that they would want get involved in the Mandela Day Challenge. This event, hosted by Growing Up Africa involved filling sandbags for the Devland Soweto Community Education Campus. PPC Cement promised to donate R67 for every bag filled which means that the 138 bags filled by members of our Braamfontein office will see a respectable total of R9246 donated to the project.
One of Nelson Mandela’s most famous quotes is, ‘It always seems impossible until it’s done’. Participating in Mandela Day reminds us that it is the small actions of many people, working together, that result in great achievements. We’re very proud of the initiative displayed by staff and look forward to finding more ways to contribute to our local communities.
